Ver. 06/30 MAP PDF GPX
RouteType:
DESTINATION- Includes a stop at the Big Muskie Bucket park on OH 78. Lunch stop is also very popular. CURVY route.

Distance: 269 miles. There is a loop you can eliminate that saves about 60 miles but the short cut skips the lunch stop.
Lunch Stop: Historic Beallsville Diner in Beallsville, OH
Direction from Marietta: NW, N, NE, CLOCKWISE

RouteType: DESTINATION- New River Bridge near Fayetteville, WV. Great lunch stop. CURVY route.
Navigation difficulty: SIMPLE except for the 8 mile optional Gorge section
Distance: 315 miles. One of the longest routes but much of it is open with sweepers so you can maintain a good pace.
Lunch Stop: Secret Sandwich Society in Fayetteville, WV, is unique, well-known and could be considered a destination in and of itself
Direction from Marietta: S CLOCKWISE
Comments: Main roads: Calhoun Highway, Clay Highway, US 60, 19 This is one of the most popular routes at FlyBy Week for good reason.

Not to be missed- the 7.5 mile road to the bottom of the gorge under the bridge. This is the BrdgRideGorge route segment and should be ranked TWISTY and very slow going. It's fully paved and not difficult. The only trick is finding the starting point if you don't have the route in your GPS. It comes out near the West end of the main bridge so simply cross it and proceed to the start of the afternoon return route.

Norm recommends going earlier in the week- It gets CROWDED after about 11:30AM, especially on Saturdays.

The
Hillbilly EZ Pt2 128 route goes through Huntington, WV, North through Wayne National Forest, eventually backtracking the morning route from Pomeroy, OH, most of the way back to Marietta. There are two additional Hillbilly Hotdogs route options, so be sure to check them out as well.

The
Hillbilly Tech Pt1 156 route to Hillbilly Hotdogs is the most challenging in the FlyBy Week library. It uses many little-known back roads with sharp curves and elevation changes. Some of the county roads are not very well-maintained, so pavement can be a bit lumpy in places. You will see a lot of very remote countryside and variety. To hit the 11-11:30am arrival window at Hillbilly Hotdogs you need to leave by 8am, maintain a good pace and not linger too long at the midway gas stop.

After lunch, load up the
Hillbilly Tech Pt2 128 route for the return trip. You'll enjoy a nice pace and sweepers until you hit I77.

Suggestion: If you are tired, just continue on I77 back to the hotel. OTOH, if you have some energy left, just follow the route off I77 at Rockport and hit some more twisties!

RouteType:
DESTINATION- River City Ale Works in downtown Wheeling WV. CURVY route.

Distance: 206 miles using the Ohio return route, 231 miles using the WV return route..
Lunch Stop: River City Ale Works in downtown Wheeling WV Note: Closed Sun
Direction from Marietta:
NE, E
Comments: Great route to Wheeling via OH 821, 78, 145, 26 etc. Getting to downtown Wheeling is not too complicated, but you must turn at the right place because there are not many opportunities to cross the Ohio river. This is certainly doable with paper maps but the GPS with prompts is easier. Great food in an interesting restored building that used to be a nail factory

There are two choices for the return route. The
NailFact Pt2 Via OH 100 version is mostly the reverse of the morning route. The NailFact Pt2 Via WV 129 version is 29 miles further and includes US 250 to the town of Hundred, WV 7 and a trip on the Sistersville Ferry to get back to Ohio. The remaining run back to the hotel is via OH 260 and 26.

Note about the Ferry: It only runs 6AM-6PM Thur-Fri, 9AM-6PM Sat-Sun, so choose the 09 NailFact Pt2 Via WV 133 No ferry. (If you find that the ferry is closed, the nearest bridges are at St. Marys 16 miles SW and New Martinsville 10 miles NE.)

Ver. 08/13 MAP GPX
RouteType:
ADVENTURE
Navigation difficulty: TECHNICAL- Requires a GPS with support for tracks. No route provided.
Distance: 101 miles
Lunch Stop: New Frontier Restaurant, New Matamoras, OH
Direction from Marietta: NE CLOCKWISE
Comments: Adventure route in Wayne National Forest, created by WV adventure riding guru Brian Holmes. This route is composed primarily of smaller paved roads and gravel county roads (roughly 50/50 mix of pavement/gravel). Gravel is freshly graded in many spots and roads are better maintained than WV Adventure routes with wider berms and deeper gravel. Spotty cellular service is available along the route in some locations. Expect moderate gravel roads, some up-hill and down-hill gravel grades, some freshly graded/loose gravel and a small stream crossings. Scenery is everything from wooded forest, rolling pastures to mountain ridges. As a shorter loop (101mi) many bikes can make the round trip without fuel. Fuel is not easy to come by at the furthest reaches of the route and may require a detour to New Matamoras or Woodsfield. Intermediate adventure riding skill level with competence in gravel is recommended.

25 Exp WV ADV 160
Updated for 2021 DO NOT USE LAST YEAR'S VERSION Ver. 08/13 MAP GPX
RouteType:
ADVENTURE
Navigation difficulty: TECHNICAL- Requires a GPS with support for tracks. No route provided.
Distance: 160 miles
Lunch Stop: Marathon Gas Station, Walker, WV
Direction from Marietta: S, E COUNTERCLOCKWISE
Comments: Created by WV adventure riding guru Brian Holmes. This is virtually the same route as last year but updated to avoid a gate that has been put up since we ran it last year. DO NOT to use last year's version if you have it saved.

This route is not for the faint of heart. It can be done on a big adventure bike but is more fun on a single cylinder bike. Be ready for a challenge. This route will take you through beautiful rural West Virginia on an adventure that you will surely be talking about for some time to come. Be prepared to ride dirt roads, rough gravel, stream crossings, graded dirt, stream beds and much more. You will pass a few "Road Closed" signs along the route, but the good news is they are not closed to bikes and smaller traffic. I have marked on the route file where these signs are so if you're in question check your GPS. You need to be confident in your riding abilities and GPS navigation abilities.

This route is the most challenging but also the most scenic of the adventure routes showcasing the challenging terrain of West Virginia. There are 5 challenge sections of variable length and difficulty, however much of the ride some may find to be a challenge. Expect no cellular service for the majority of the ride. It is recommended that you top off your fuel in Marietta or Crossroads General store and Fuel is available again outside of Grantsville,WV and St. Marys, WV. There is food available in Grantsville at Tudors and St. Marys at the Boxcar. This ride is a 150+ mile route and expect a low average speed. It is likely the route may take you all day depending on your skill level and pace. Make sure you ride prepared! Be advised this route requires EXPERT level adventure riding skills.

26 RVess Special 220 Ver. 06/08 MAP PDF GPX
RouteType:
CURVY
Navigation difficulty: AVERAGE
Distance: 220 miles
Lunch Stop: Sakura Family Restaurant, Bellaire, OH
Direction from Marietta: NE, CLOCKWISE
Comments: Regular attendees of FlyBy Week all know Ron Vess, who helps with the outdoor lounge and other details of our event. Ron lives nearby and grew up here so he knows all the roads and just about everything that goes on in the area. He developed this fun route that uses some "new" roads. The Southeastern part of Ohio has seen extensive oil and gas drilling and pipelines over the past few years, and to get the equipment and materials in and out, they paved and improved some of the gravel roads in the area. The work is mostly done now and we have some new curvy roads with great views and perfect pavement. Ron's route provides quite a tour!

The route begins on OH26 but quickly diverts to twisty backroads including Dalzell road, bits of 565, 537, 800, 556, on to the lunch stop in Bellaire, OH. The Sakura Family Restuarant features Asian food, but has a good variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees available. I had the fish sandwich and it was to die for.

After lunch, the route takes you on German Ridge road, 556, Sykes Ridge, and a bunch of other county roads before bringing you back to the hotel. Don't miss this one!

27 Int-Exp ADV #2 127 New for 2021 Ver. 08/13 MAP GPX
RouteType:
ADVENTURE
Navigation difficulty: TECHNICAL- Requires a GPS with support for tracks. No route provided.
Distance: 127 miles
Lunch Stop Choices: Chen's Garden Chinese (Paden City), The Fort Pizza, Subway, Dairy Queen, Banker's Corner (Sistersville), Riverview Restaurant (Fly Ohio)
Direction from Marietta: SE COUNTER CLOCKWISE
Comments: From adventure riding guru Brian Holmes: This is an intermediate-expert combo route. I have 3 challenge sections best suited to single cylinder bikes with skilled riders that are marked in red. They branch off a nice intermediate level loop. This way, if you have a mixed group of rider skills or bikes you can split the group at the challenge sections, then reconverge and still "ride together" for the majority of the ride.

This mostly intermediate level route winds through the hills of West Virginia. There are a few small stream crossings and rougher gravel roads. The route leads to Paden city where you can get fuel and food at the Chinese restaurant. If that's not your preferance, do not fret, as the route will soon loop back into Sistersville where you can also get fuel and food at multiple locations (the Fort pizza, Subway, Dairy Queen, Banker's Corner). The ride then will cross the Ohio River on the historic Sistersville Ferry so make sure you bring money for the fare and pay attention to the Ferry operating hours. Once across the Ohio River, you will make your way back to Marietta on scenic graded gravel roads. For those who would like to throw a challenge into the mix, there are three challenge sections marked in red. Two are challenging due to terrain and the third, closest to Marietta, is a challenge primarily due to the water crossing. During dry spells it's mild and enjoyable but with a little rain it is quite the challenge and should only be attempted with caution and discretion.

Note about the Ferry: It only runs 6AM-6PM Thur-Fri, 9AM-6PM Sat-Sun, so you might want to choose a different route Monday-Wednesday. If you find that the ferry is closed, the nearest bridges are at St. Marys 16 miles SW and New Martinsville 10 miles NE.
